Writing Coordinator, Fall 2016-Spring 2017

School of Mechanical Engineering’s Writing Enhancement program

Along with another Coordinator, I:

  • Trained TAs about how to teach and grade memos ME 263: Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Design, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship
  • Revised current writing resources (e.g. rubrics, writing tip handouts) and creating new ones for ME 263
  • Collaborated with ME faculty to conduct an analysis of student writing needs
  • Developed assessment tools to measure students’ writing performance within the major
  • Helped ME TAs and faculty to both identify and support the writing and language needs of domestic and international students within the major
  • Attended weekly meetings to continue discussions with ME faculty and TAs about improving writing instruction and addressing students’ writing needs

WAC Coordinator, Spring 2015-Spring 2017

College of Agriculture

For the Spring 2015, another WAC Coordinator and myself revised and delivered a writing curriculum for students in ANSC 311, a course on genetic breeding. From the Fall 2015-Spring 2017, two other WAC Coordinators and myself continued our collaboration with two animal sciences faculty members to develop a writing curriculum for upper-level students in ANSC 481, a course about industry- and student-led discussions and debate of current issues facing animal industries. With the other Coordinators, I:

  • Conducted lectures on writing assignments such as resumes and personal statements
  • Graded writing assignments and providing feedback to students
  • Held office hours and out-of-class workshops to offer additional writing assistance to students
  • Attended meetings with the ANSC 481 faculty about assessing and revising this writing curriculum to better address and support students’ writing needs

Purdue Writing Lab 

In this position, I arranged summer workshops, coordinated undergraduate and graduate tutoring schedules with Lab staff, and answered phone calls and email inquiries about Lab-related services for the off-site Associate Director and Interim Director, and wrote the Lab’s 2013-2014 annual report: 2013-2014 annual report

Writing Lab/Introductory Composition at Purdue Liaison, Fall 2012-Spring 2014

Purdue Writing Lab 

In this position, I fostered communication and interaction between the Introductory Composition at Purdue (ICaP) program and the Writing Lab by hosting Brown Bags on topics of interest to ICaP instructors. Demonstrated to instructors how to use OWL resources in their courses, facilitated the mentoring of undergraduate tutors, and supported instructors and students in their ICaP Showcase projects through workshops and tutorials.
